Overview
Chile is the country with the highest nominal GDP per capita in Latin America, a modern nation with an expanding economy focused on exports. It’s also a fast-growing destination for production services where Red Creek has filmed with Audi, Google, Honda, Mastercard, J. Crew, Kraft Foods, Nike, and others.
Locations
Nestled between the Andes mountains the Pacific Ocean, Chile extends from a latitude of 17° South, the Atacama Desert, one of the driest areas in the world, to Cape Horn at 56°, facing Antarctica, making Chile the perfect replacement for California’s forest, deserts, fjords, fruit farms, and even wineries. It’s well-kept mountain roads overlooking the ocean make Chile a favorite destination to shoot car commercials. Though Chile spans 38 degrees of latitude, the country is roughly only 200 miles wide, creating the unique conditions for a great variety of locations within short distances. Along with California, it is one of the few places in the world where a morning shoot by the ocean and an afternoon one in the mountains is possible.
Santiago, the capital, is the most modern city in South America and can easily stand-in for many American ones. Downtown Santiago is often referred to as “Sanhattan”, and its suburbs resemble the North American suburbia.
Weather
Seasons in Chile are the opposite of the US and Europe. The summer months are December, January, and February, while the winter months are July and August. It is a country of contrasting climates. The only environment missing from Chile is Tropical. The North is deserted and semi-arid. Central Chile, home to most of the population, is of temperate Mediterranean type climate. As one continues South, the climate is Temperate oceanic first and reaching Subpolar Oceanic in Southern Patagonia.
Crew and Equipment
Crews are extremely qualified and have gained experience from many complex, large-scale international productions. Rental houses are in Santiago and very well stocked, offering the latest cameras and lenses, Russian Arms, motion control, and the latest streaming technology at very competitive rates. The only drawback is that sound stages tend to be small.
Casting and Talent
Chile’s talent pool has been consistently growing, and any gaps can be easily covered with actors and models from Argentina, a short flight away.
